Top 15 Cool And Unusual Hotels In Athens

I loved how there was a very hip, energetic and creative side to the Greek capital and this is very evident in the city’s extensive cluster of hotels which reflect its vibrant rhythm of life and trendy urban vibe. From eclectic boutiques to classic Athenian masterpieces, here are my favorites…

1. 14 Reasons Why Hotel

This luxury gem was a 2-minute walk from Monastiraki Square and a mere 5-minute walk from the world-famous Acropolis. With impeccable attention to detail, I found that the newly built hotel had 14 guestrooms each with tasteful décor, an LCD TV, a minibar, an espresso machine, and an electric kettle.

Each room had a different name and I especially loved the Chic Suite, dressed in pink and in Seletti World neon art letters. In this peaceful cocoon, there was a unique woven armchair by Saba Italia and trendy wooden tiles!

The lobby, which was equipped with unique designer furniture served up generous à la carte breakfast with fresh seasonal ingredients prepared by the chefs upon request each morning. I could choose from various savoury and sweet dishes, such as handmade cheese pie with scrambled eggs or pancakes with Greek pastry cream – all were very tasty!

My favorite highlights…

  • The breakfast – the fluffy Greek-style pancakes filled with fresh blueberries each morning was exactly what I needed to start my day!
  • Soaking up the sunset views from the rooftop terrace with an Athenian Spritz in hand – I loved seeing Acropolis and the Parthenon, which were beautifully lit up at night as well as the rooftops of the Monastiraki and Plaka districts.

I was a big fan of this retro-chic spot! Located near the Parthenon and Syntagma Square my guest room had minimalist decor, high-quality linens, a TV with Netflix, and a walk-in shower.

All the rooms had trendy but homely decor, high-end appliances and mine also came with a balcony where I could gaze down at the busy city streets each morning and evening.

This character-filled property also featured a rooftop which had jaw-dropping city and Acropolis views alongside a trendy designer plunge pool.  There was also a quaint outdoor patio spot on the street where I sipped on my coffee and watched the world go by!

Designed in homage to the owner’s favourite novel, I thought this was a sophisticated and very striking spot where the roaring 1920s met the 21st century!

There were 33 rooms in total across six themed categories. My room came with parquet flooring, a Nespresso machine, and a diamond-tiled bathroom stocked with Ortigia toiletries.

I stayed in the gorgeous Gatsby Suite, which had a fabulous terrace with an outdoor hot tub and even it’s very own private cinema!

I also loved the all-day restaurant and bar which served up contemporary Mediterranean flavours. I loved that Cloud 9, the guests-only rooftop bar, had astonishing views of central Athens and I also found a small gym in the basement as well as a modern treatment room which offered facials and massages.

Here I found a centrally-located opulent townhouse transformed into an intimate boutique hideaway with superb contemporary decor and lots of Insta-worthy design features. I loved that Versace and Dior had shot photographic campaigns in this neoclassical house as that was quite the accolade!
