Resupply on the CDT – BikeHikeSafari

Sharing is caring!

This is a complete Guide to Resupply on the CDT 2025.

This guide will contain places to resupply and places to send resupply packages when thru-hiking the Continental Divide Trail. It also details which Post Offices will receive Bounce Boxes with their address.

You can read my CDT Information Guide which also includes my daily journal, some hints, and tips for the trail.

The author has thru-hiked the CDT and this CDT resupply guide is based on his experience on the trail and that of 100s of others that have thru-hiked the Continental Divide Trail.

Important Note: Every effort has been made to ensure this guide is correct at the time of writing but use it as a guide and confirm everything by yourself. If anything has changed please advise me and I’ll update this guide.

Bounce Box on the CDT

A bounce box is a box that you continually send to yourself while hiking. It might contain a computer, spare shoes, socks, and extra clothes that you will not be wearing on the trail such as jeans, etc. I have used bounce boxes on all the long-distance thru-hikes that I have hiked and had no problems with lost boxes.

There are also Trail Angels that might accept your bounce box for you or store unwanted gear or clothing while you are hiking.

A Trail Angel is a term used to describe anyone helping out a hiker. It is an important Continental Divide Trail resupply option for those who don’t want to carry every bit of clothing or equipment they have with them.

General Delivery on the CDT

It is possible to send resupply packages and your bounce box to yourself on the trail. Numerous trail towns have post offices that accept packages. They often have restricted hours on weekends that require a bit of planning on your part or you may find yourself waiting a couple of days for the post office to open. Also, be aware of public holidays.

There are some hotels and other locations that accept packages, I’ve included the address in this guide but be aware that things change and it is up to you to confirm the correct address and if there is a fee to receive these packages.

You can get a tracking code for your box.

Grocery Store Options on the CDT

Most small towns on the CDT have good backpacking food options. There are some, however, that are little more than a gas station. If you are a fussy hiker you may want to send food to many more places than mentioned below.

Continental Divide Trail Resupply Town Guide

Note: All the distances on this guide are taken from the FarOut Trail Guide App, which I highly recommend for planning and navigation.

As there are so many alternatives on the CDT I have added the alternate miles from FarOut. I have tried to ensure that the distances to the next resupply are correct but because some resupply towns are bouncing between alternates and the official route it may appear confusing.

Example:

Next resupply 74 miles at Silver City.

Next resupply 52 miles at Doc Cambells.

Even though Doc Campbells is 40 miles on the Gila River Alternate which would add up to Mile 210. This would make all distances wrong when you get back on the official CDT. Confusing but makes sense at the same time.

84 miles – Lordsburg NM

Good resupply options and several hiker-friendly motels.

Post Office:
Your Name
General Delivery
401 Shakespeare St

158 Miles – Silver City NM

Lots of great places to eat and resupply.

Post Office:

500 N Hudson St
Silver City, NM 88061

Next resupply 52 miles at Doc Cambells. I assume you will be taking the Gila River route which is the best option.

40 miles (Gila River Alt) – Doc Campbells NM

There is a basic resupply in the store which will be OK for some but most send packages. Send a food package with your estimated time of arrival ETA.

Send Package to:
Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)
C/O Doc Campbells Post
3796 Highway 15,
Mimbres, NM 88049

Next resupply 109 miles at Pie Town.

415 miles – Pie Town NM

Send food packages as there are no resupply options.

Post Office:
Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)

33 Apricot Ave,
Pie Town, NM 87827

Next resupply 108 miles at Grants.

523 miles – Grants NM

Good grocery stores, restaurants, and food options. Several reasonably priced motel options and a good spot to take a rest day.

Options to take the Ghost Ranch Alternative which is hiker-friendly and recommended.

Next resupply 56 miles to Ghost Ranch or 152 to Charma.

571 miles – Ghost Ranch NM

Send a resupply package here and enjoy. Great meals.

Contact them to confirm mailing instructions:

Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)
Ghost Ranch
280 Private Drive 1708
Abiquiu, NM 87510

Next resupply 96 to Charma.

780 miles – Chama NM

Congrats on finishing New Mexico. Good resupply options in Chama but the town is a bit spread out. You probably have encountered a bit of snow already unless you started late or are heading SOBO. Buy and send snow gear if heading northbound depending on the snow levels. There are multiple alternate routes north depending on snow and weather conditions. The main route through the San Juans is highly recommended.

Be aware you will be at altitude and probably eat more food than normal so take extra.

Post Office:
Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)
General Delivery
199 5th St W,
Chama, NM 87520

Next resupply 68 to Pagosa Springs.

848 miles Pagosa Springs CO

Good beer, grocery stores, restaurants, and food options. Several reasonably priced motel options and a good spot to take a rest day.

Once again there are several alternatives north of here including options through the towns of South Forke, Creede, and Del Norte. These alternates are safe options if there is a lot of snow or you are a late-season SOBO. Otherwise, the scenery on the San Juan route is best.

Post Office:
Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)
General Delivery
250 Hot Springs Blvd,
Pagosa Springs, CO 81147

Next resupply 83 miles to Silverton or 116 Lake City in the San Juans Route.

931 miles – Silverton CO

There are several options to get off the trail and go to Silverton for a resupply. None of which are good or easy. From the CDT take the trail at the Stoney Pass Trailhead. It is a big detour out of the way but if you need more food or don’t want to do a big food carry-out of Pagosa Springs. Most skip this and go to Lake City.

Post Office:
Your Name (CDT Hiker – ETA)
General Delivery
138 W 12th St,
Silverton, CO 81433

There are many resupply options for the next section. If you want the shortest route you could take the Silverthorn Alternate and save a few miles. There is even a bike path/hiking trail that links Copper Mountain, Frisco, and Breckenridge if you want a flat easy option. Most hikers seem to carry food to Breckenridge and resupply there.

Many Resupply options for the next section including Leadville in 41 miles, Frisco in 70 miles, Breckenridge in 83 miles, and Silverthorne in 90 miles if taking the Silverthorne Alternate.

NOBO hikers: You are now entering Grizzly Country, try to grab bear spray from SOBO hikers or buy one. The section south of Yellowstone is the area where they relocate problem Grizzlies so please have bear spray and take precautions with food north of here.
