I love staying at Crosby Street Hotel. My daughter and I needed to be in Lower Manhattan, so I chose it based on my previous stay at sister Firmdale Hotel, Ham Yard in London. I’m a fan of co-owner Kit Kemp’s use of color, plants, patterns, and art that doesn’t look like they’ll go together, but they do.
It’s undoubtedly the priciest luxury boutique hotel in the SoHo area but has earned the highest reviews. It did not disappoint, and I can say with certainty that I will be back.
I booked in like a client and the VIP amenities you can access through us were applied to my stay. Thanks to the outstanding food in the Crosby Bar, the complimentary daily breakfast for two was a huge win, and my room was upgraded.
What’s also pretty fantastic is the outstanding location. Midtown has its purpose, but SoHo is special. It’s calmer and less touristy, with spectacular dining and shopping near NYU, Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, and other neighborhoods. Crosby Street Hotel Rooms and Suites
The 86 rooms and suites all have floor-to-ceiling windows and are decorated in a tasteful, colorful palette with cool art. So, what you see on the website isn’t going to be what you check into decor-wise. No two rooms and suites are alike.
Rooms
Rooms have king beds and marble bathrooms with walk-in showers (no tubs). The size is generous for NYC. (A few other nearby luxury hotels hover around the 250-square-foot range.)
- Superior Rooms: These are located on the 2nd floor overlooking Crosby Street and are 340 square feet. There is an ADA version of this room. Two-person occupancy.
- Luxury Rooms: Lower floors overlooking Crosby Street or hotel sculpture garden, 350 square feet. Two-person occupancy.
- Deluxe Rooms: Higher floors, 360 square feet, neat window pillow seats. Three-person occupancy.
- Deluxe Rooms: Top floors, 360 square feet, views of lower Manhattan or hotel sculpture garden, and neat window pillow seats. Three-person occupancy.
Limited connecting rooms are available.
We were upgraded to a Deluxe Room overlooking Crosby Street, a quieter cobblestone street.
When we checked in, it was night, so this is the only photo I took before our luggage took over. We flew straight in from Las Vegas with a ton of volleyball gear.
The marble bathroom had towel warmers, a large walk-in shower, a single sink, and a toilet. There wasn’t much shelf or drawer space in the bathroom, but it was fine. Firmdale Hotels has its own line of bath amenities called Rik Rak, which you can buy onsite. I particularly like the body lotion.
One of my favorite features of this room is the cushioned window seats that I didn’t get a photo of unfortunately. I could see myself sitting there with a book when the weather permits.
I also loved the fully-stocked minibar. Yes, taking from it is pricey but this is New York City, which also means no in-room coffee.
WiFi was also fast and free. A writing desk and chair rounded out the furnishings, along with nightstands with drawers and an additional chest of drawers for clothing.
Junior Suites
These have a small sofa and chair seating area and larger bathrooms with two basins, a walk-in shower, and a bathtub. These have a three-person occupancy but can sleep four people if there are two kids under 12 years old.
- Deluxe Junior Suite: 460 square feet with views of lower Manhattan
- Luxury Junior Suite: 400 square feet with views of the sculpture garden
One to Three Bedroom Suites
For those who need more space, choose one of the gorgeous suites. The larger ones have living rooms with sofas and club chairs and can also have fireplaces, outdoor terraces with lawns and trees, and more home-like amenities. Occupancy for these varies but goes from three people on up.
The Crosby Bar & Terrace
The Crosby Bar is the hotel restaurant and bar wrapped into one serving breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, and an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. The outdoor terrace opens seasonally in good weather.
We ate most of our breakfasts here and a few lunches. You can opt for a continental breakfast buffet of baked goods, yogurt, and fruit.
You can also order a la carte from the breakfast menu, which we did daily. And our breakfast was subtracted from our bill daily. It didn’t look like a set dollar amount, but we ordered a drink and an entree each time. As you know, this is a substantial value in a NYC hotel.
I’d call it an American menu with obvious British influences. Open all day, The Crosby Bar serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner.
The bar’s signature cocktails and extensive wine list make it a popular spot. The bar itself is inside the restaurant. Both felt busy all day, with locals having meetings and hotel guests grabbing a bite to eat.
To give you an idea of its clientele, I was looking at handbags almost the entire time. It is NYC chic, that is for sure.

Other Hotel Amenities
Of course, there are other conveniences the hotel offers for guests to enjoy.
Gym
The hotel’s state-of-the-art gym has the latest cardiovascular and resistance training equipment. So you can still eat at Prince Street Pizza around the corner and work it off later. The gym also has garden views through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Private Screening Room
One of Crosby Street Hotel’s unique features is its private screening room. With luxurious seating and cutting-edge audiovisual technology, you can reserve it for private film screenings, presentations, or special events.
The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room is a cozy and elegant space where guests can relax with a book or have a quiet conversation. The room is decorated with plush furnishings and a curated collection of books and artwork.
In the evening, guests can walk down for a drink, either self-service or via a waitstaff usually present in the room. You simply write down what you took, your name, and room number. I understand why more hotels don’t have this, but I loved this little amenity.
I don’t remember the pricing, but it was way less than a glass of wine at the bar. I thought it was very reasonable for what you were getting!
This is also a quieter place to wait for your car or airport transfer after check-out.
Garden Terrace
There is a small garden behind the hotel that some rooms and the restaurant have views of. It was closed during our April stay, well, because the weather was cold and rainy. But any remotely green space in a city like this is welcome and it extends back to Lafayette Street.
Art Everywhere
You’ll even see art in the elevators. It’s everywhere, tasteful, fun, colorful, and I love it. If you’re a dog lover, there are little dog sculptures and even dog photo montages in the elevator.
Service and Vibe
I was pleased with the service throughout the hotel. It’s not so in-your-face like other luxury hotels where people are calling you by name. So you can fly under the radar if you want.
The concierge (available 24 hours) was awesome at getting us last-minute dinner reservations and recommending places to eat that we loved. Room service also came as promised and rather quickly. The doormen helped us with umbrellas and easy passage in and out of the hotel or cars because it was raining.
We did have an issue with the room next door being renovated. I later found out that they’re always working on rooms in the hotel so they don’t get outdated—a good thing. The front desk handled the situation, and the workers were kind enough to work until we left the room quietly. I was happy with the resolution.
Everyone was nice. While well-heeled travelers are seen everywhere, it didn’t feel stuffy. But it’s a place where I pack my nicer shoes, coats, and handbags to walk around dressed reasonably nicely. I wouldn’t feel comfortable otherwise.
Is it Kid-Friendly?
I wouldn’t have any problem taking my kids here. When you’re booking a NYC boutique hotel, you have to know and expect that it’s not going to be heaving with families and kid-friendly amenities. There were a few well-behaved younger kids in the restaurant and kids’ menus. The hotel also has complimentary cribs.
Would I let kids run wild in the lobby? Definitely not, because of the sculptures on the ground and that’s just not the vibe it gives off.
Awesome SoHo Location
Crosby Street Hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of New York City’s SoHo, which is probably my favorite area to stay in now. Known for its historic cast-iron architecture and cobblestone streets, SoHo is a haven for art enthusiasts, fashionistas, and food lovers.
The hotel’s prime location puts guests within walking distance of galleries, boutique shops, and high-end designer stores like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Prada. There is also food, and there is plenty of it in all price ranges.
Prince Street Pizza is a few blocks away, but so is the famous Balthazar brasserie, which is about a block from the hotel lobby in the other direction. You have the Museum of Ice Cream a few steps away and Lombardi’s. Walking to Chinatown is no big deal; there’s too much to mention there.
For a sweet treat, Dominique Ansel Bakery, home of the famous Cronut, is just a short stroll away. We stood in line for one, and it was worth it. So is Mochidoki, if you like mochi ice ceam.
It’s also about a 10-minute walk (or less, depending on how many street lights you hit) to New York University.
