Shiba Park Hotel: A Haven for Book Lovers in the Heart of Tokyo

Imagine a hotel where you can wander the hall to find a curated library just waiting to provide a book for the evening. If you can’t find an ideal book on your floor, you can venture down to the lobby or second floor for even larger areas designated to books from around the world, covering topics of art, travel, culture and more.

Shiba Park Hotel combines contemporary comfort with a unique literary concept, creating a welcoming space where guests can unwind and explore the world through books. It’s a concept I believe should be replicated in cities around the world, I would happily stay at a library hotel wherever I travel! Located in a quiet yet central area of Tokyo, this boutique-style hotel offers a distinctive experience for those seeking a retreat that inspires both relaxation and curiosity.

The Location

Situated in Tokyo’s Minato district, Shiba Park Hotel is ideally positioned for both leisure and exploration. The hotel is within walking distance of major attractions such as Zōjō-ji Temple and Tokyo Tower, offering guests the chance to discover the city’s cultural and architectural highlights. Shiba Park itself is a short stroll away, providing a peaceful escape amidst greenery.

Access to public transport is convenient, with Daimon Subway Station and Hamamatsucho Train Station just a few minutes away. Both Haneda and Narita airports are easily reachable via train, limousine bus, or taxi, making the hotel a practical base for international travellers, especially if you’re flying in or out of Haneda – it’s much faster to access from this airport.

Design & Atmosphere

The hotel’s library concept is woven into every aspect of its design, with bookshelves and curated collections displayed throughout the property. Warm lighting and cosy furnishings create a tranquil atmosphere, encouraging guests to pause and enjoy a moment of quiet reflection.

On the ninth floor, where I stayed, the travel-themed library added an extra layer of “could this be the Tokyo hotel of my dreams?”. The books ranged from travel guides to inspiring memoirs and photo books, offering a delightful way to unwind after a day of exploring Tokyo. This thoughtful design touch perfectly encapsulates the hotel’s blend of creativity and comfort.

The Rooms

Shiba Park Hotel offers a variety of rooms designed to combine comfort with a touch of elegance. During my stay in a Standard King Room on the 9th floor, I enjoyed the spacious layout, plush king-sized bed, and a unique travel-themed library. The curated collection of books added a personal and inspiring touch, blending themes of exploration and relaxation. Thoughtful amenities such as high-quality bath products, slippers, pyjamas, and an air purifier ensured a restful experience.

For those seeking something extra, the hotel’s Library Rooms stand out with their curated book collections tailored to themes like art, travel, and culture. Deluxe Rooms offer additional space for families or couples, while Suites provide the ultimate in luxury with expansive living areas and premium furnishings. Each room reflects the hotel’s tranquil atmosphere, making it an inviting retreat for both short and extended stays.

If you haven’t visited Japan before, one thing you may love as much as I do are the hotel bathrooms. They’re impressively compact, but typically feature a deep bath and lots of gorgeous amenities from bath salts to exfoliating cloths.

Photography Locations Nearby

Shiba Park Hotel’s location places it within walking distance of some of Tokyo’s most picturesque spots, making it an excellent base for photography enthusiasts.

Tokyo Tower
A short stroll from the hotel, Tokyo Tower is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Whether photographed during the day or illuminated at night, its bright red structure contrasts beautifully with the surrounding urban landscape. For a unique perspective, capture the tower framed by the nearby Zojoji Temple.

Zōjō-ji Temple
Right next to Tokyo Tower, Zōjō-ji Temple and the surrounding complex offers a serene setting steeped in history. This Buddhist temple features traditional architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds, making it ideal for capturing Tokyo’s cultural heritage. For an extra special experience, visit during a service (held daily at 6:30 AM and 10:00 AM) to experience the rhythmic chanting and tranquil atmosphere. While photographs aren’t permitted during the service, it’s such an important cultural event to witness, to feel the chants vibrate your body, truly immersive.

The Zojo-ji Sange Datsumon Gate is worth spending some time exploring various composition possibilities and angles, then further into the complex you’ll also find Koshoden which I photographed as the golden glow of sunset was approaching, an ideal spot for sunset in Tokyo with Tokyo Tower and Zōjō-ji Temple also possible within the same shot.

Momiji Waterfall and Forest
Located within Momiji Valley between Tokyo Tower and Zōjō-ji Temple, the Momiji Waterfall is a hidden gem surrounded by lush greenery. This small but photogenic spot offers a peaceful escape and is especially stunning during autumn when the maple trees surrounding the area turn vibrant shades of red and orange. The nearby forest paths provide additional opportunities to capture nature in the heart of the city.

If you’re keen to photograph Shibuya Crossing and Shinjuku, the Yamanote Line is accessible nearby via the Hamamatsuchō Station.
